What a bigger box is actually worth.
Everyone tells you boxes are cheaper than singles. Almost nobody tells you how much cheaper, or when it stops being true. We can, because we price 4,000+ boxes at the distribution level and the arithmetic is sitting right there in the catalog.
Take the same brand in the same size and compare the small box against the big one. Across our catalog, the larger box comes out cheaper per cigar about 7 times in 10, by roughly 13 percent. The three-in-ten exceptions are nearly always packaging: tubos, crystal tubes and tinned packs carry their cost per stick no matter how many you buy.
The cleanest example in stock right now is Arturo Fuente Curly Head. The 25-count Deluxe box runs $92, which is $3.68 a cigar. The 40-count box of the same cigar runs $122, which is $3.05. Same tobacco, same factory, 17 percent less per smoke for buying the bigger box.

Buying a box near you, honestly.
If you searched for a box of cigars near you, here is the trade-off nobody at the shop counter will spell out. A local retailer buys from a distributor and marks the box up roughly 1.8 to 2.5 times to cover rent, staff and a humidor that has to hold hundreds of boxes at 70 percent humidity. That markup is fair, and it buys you something real: you can look at the box, ask a human, and walk out with it today.
What it does not buy you is a better cigar. The box is identical. If you already know what you want, ordering it at the distribution level and having it shipped same-day from humidified storage in Colorado costs meaningfully less and arrives in the same condition. Boxes are also backed by our no-risk exchange, which almost no online cigar retailer offers, so a box that turns out wrong gets swapped toward one that is right.
Three mistakes people make on their first box.
Buying by strength instead of by wrapper. "Full-bodied" on a band is marketing. Wrapper shade is the honest signal: pale Connecticut shade smokes smooth, dark maduro and oscuro smoke sweeter and heavier. If you are early on, start pale.
Buying a huge ring gauge because it looks impressive. A 60-ring gordo is a 90-minute commitment and a lot of smoke. A robusto around 5 inches by 50 is 30 to 45 minutes and far easier to finish well. Most first boxes should be robustos or toros.

How much does a box of cigars cost?
It depends far more on the box size than most people expect. Across our live catalog, 10 to 15 count packs average about $119 a box, standard 16 to 25 count boxes average about $191, and 26-count-and-up bundles average about $271. Per cigar, that works out to roughly $11.53, $8.81 and $6.12 respectively. Those are distributor prices, which is one level below what a cigar shop pays before its own markup.
Is it cheaper to buy cigars by the box?
Almost always, yes, and we can show the arithmetic. Comparing the same brand in the same size across our catalog, the larger box is cheaper per cigar in roughly 7 out of 10 cases, by about 13 percent on average. The exceptions are usually packaging: a 10-count tubo or crystal-tube pack costs more to produce, so it holds its per-cigar price against the plain 25-count box of the same blend.
What size box of cigars should I buy?
Buy the standard 16 to 25 count box if you are buying for yourself and you already know you like the blend. Buy a 10 to 15 count pack if you are testing something new or buying a gift. Buy 26-count-and-up when the cigars are for an event, a wedding, a golf outing, or a humidor you need to fill, where cost per cigar matters more than variety.
How many cigars come in a box?
Twenty is the most common count by a wide margin, followed by 25, then 10. Our catalog carries 36 different box counts, from 5-packs up to 100-count cigarillo boxes. How long does a full box of cigars keep?
Years, if it is stored properly. Handmade cigars want roughly 65 to 70 percent relative humidity at 65 to 70 degrees. An unopened box in a working humidor is genuinely stable, and many blends improve over the first year or two. Buying a full box is not a race, which is exactly why the per-cigar savings are worth taking.
Do I need an account or a license to buy a box?
