The cigar concierge for cigar bars and members-only lounges.

Cigar bars, members-only lounges, and dedicated smoking rooms are the most SKU-demanding, depth-hungry accounts in the category. MDC is the cigar concierge for 70/70 Social Club, Brandy Library, The Gentlemen's Closet, and dozens of independent cigar bars across the country - concierge-level program depth, curated rotation, and a rep who knows your regulars.

Cigar bars have the hardest inventory problem in the category

Everything that's hard about a casino cigar program, or a hotel cigar program, shows up harder in a cigar bar. Your customers know the category, they've smoked the SKUs you stock, they order by brand and blend and vitola, and they notice the day the humidor rotation shifts. The margin for a weak cigar distributor is zero - regulars are gone after the second "we're out of that blend" conversation.

MDC has worked with cigar bars and lounges from the beginning. Brandy Library in Manhattan, 70/70 Social Club in Springboro, The Gentlemen's Closet in DC, Good Guys Cigars in Knoxville, and dozens of independent cigar-lounge operators across the country. The pattern: depth over breadth, fast rotation, and a weekly conversation between the bar owner and the MDC rep.

Three cigar-bar service models we build for

1. Bar-integrated cigar service

Bars where cigars are a feature of the venue but not the primary product - upscale whiskey bars, bourbon bars, specialty cocktail venues with a cigar program and walk-in humidor. The cigar menu needs to complement the beverage menu without overshadowing it. 25–40 SKUs, strong tier structure, premium on pairings.

2. Dedicated cigar bar / lounge

Bars where cigars are the product - customers come for the cigar first, the drink second. Depth-heavy humidor, 50–100+ SKUs, full tier coverage from entry-level Macanudos through limited-release boutique blends. This is where MDC's allocation relationships and rotation discipline earn their keep. Your customers will know when you're phoning it in.

3. Members-only smoking rooms and private clubs

Private clubs with dedicated cigar rooms - Jack's House model, private clubs with cigar privileges, exclusive-membership venues. Member preferences drive the humidor. Less SKU count, deeper per-SKU inventory, and a rep who knows which members smoke what.

The Complete Cigar Bar Program

What a cigar bar account with MDC includes

Depth-heavy curated rotation

50–100+ SKUs picked for your regulars. Padrón, Arturo Fuente Hemingway, Ashton Cabinet, Liga Privada, Oliva Serie V, Rocky Patel Decade, My Father, Tatuaje, Drew Estate - and the boutique brands that differentiate your humidor.

Limited and boutique releases

When they're available: new releases from Tatuaje, Drew Estate, Aganorsa Leaf, EP Carrillo, Crowned Heads, Foundation, Warped. Your regulars want to see what's new - and know what's actually available, not marketed vaporware.

Walk-in humidor infrastructure

Commercial walk-in humidor calibration, rotation schedule, beetle prevention, and humidification monitoring. For flagship accounts, we provide humidor design consultation.

On-site staff training

For national cigar-bar clients we come on-site. Cigar cut, light, recommendation, pairing with your spirits menu, and a behind-the-counter quick-reference card.

No-risk exchange

Anything that doesn't move comes back. See how it works. Critical for lounges testing new SKUs where regulars' taste is specific.

Event + tasting support

Whisky-and-cigar nights, tasting events, cigar-release parties. MDC supplies the inventory, provides branded collateral, and - for Elite Access accounts - a trained sommelier for the event.

Cigar-bar opening inventory sizing

From the opening inventory framework:

  • Bar with integrated cigar service: 800–1,500 cigars across 20–30 SKUs. Cigars are a feature of the venue, not the star.
  • Neighborhood cigar lounge: 1,500–3,000 cigars across 30–50 SKUs. Full tier coverage, trained staff, weekly rotation review.
  • Destination cigar bar (Brandy Library model): 3,000–6,000+ cigars across 50–100 SKUs. Deep humidor, boutique and limited representation, member-following expectation.
  • Flagship / members-only private club: 6,000+ cigars, 100+ SKUs, multiple humidors, standing weekly rep relationship.

Sizing assumes a climate-calibrated walk-in humidor, trained cigar staff, and a rotation plan. Your MDC rep will build a proposal specific to your venue, regular-customer profile, and existing beverage program within 2–3 business days.

The cigar-bar margin math

Cigar bars see the widest margin spread in the category: 2.5–4.0× retail markup on the mid-tier, 3.5–5.0× on the upper tier, and frequently 2.0–2.5× on the entry-level volume SKUs. A $12 wholesale cigar serves at $30–$45, a $22 wholesale serves at $60–$95. The driver is experience premium - customers at a cigar bar are paying for the chair, the cut, the light, the room, and the conversation more than for the stick itself.

The business math of a real cigar bar runs on repeat-customer velocity, not transaction volume. A regular who comes in twice a month for 4 hours and spends $150 each time is worth $3,600 a year in cigar + beverage. Lose that regular because the humidor rotation got stale, and you don't replace them with walk-ins - you just have a slower lounge.

Cost of Waiting

A single regular who leaves your lounge because of a stale humidor rotation costs $3,000-$5,000 in lost annual revenue. Five lost regulars is a margin event; ten is a lounge-identity problem.

P.S. The cigar-bar category is the most referral-driven in hospitality. Your regulars talk. What your humidor says about you this year is what new members hear about you next year.
