The cigar concierge for destination resorts where the cigar is part of the stay.
Destination resorts have a cigar-program problem that in-city hotels don't: guests stay longer, cigar service is expected across multiple venues on-property (lobby, pool, terrace, dining), and the inventory footprint has to support all of it without bloat. MDC is the cigar concierge for luxury resort properties including the Broadmoor, Four Seasons resorts, and destination lodges nationwide - concierge-level program design across every service point on the property.
Resort cigar programs are multi-venue programs
A resort cigar program isn't a single humidor - it's typically three or four service points under one roof. Lobby bar cigar service, outdoor cigar terrace, pool-deck service (afternoons), main dining room post-dinner program, and event-specific cigar service for weddings and corporate retreats. Each venue has a different service model, a different clientele flow pattern, and requires inventory depth calibrated to the service cadence.
MDC has spent fourteen years designing resort cigar programs - including the Broadmoor, multiple Four Seasons resort properties, and a wide range of independent destination lodges and resort hotels. The approach: a single core rotation (25–40 SKUs) that supports the whole property, with supplemental supply planning for event-heavy weekends.
The four resort cigar service models
1. Lobby bar / entry-point cigar service
The first impression service. Cigars ordered at check-in, during evening drinks, as part of the arrival experience. Requires breadth across the tier structure - a guest should see a Macanudo option and a premium Padrón and a boutique pick all on the same menu card.
2. Outdoor cigar terrace / dedicated smoking area
The signature cigar experience. Depth-heavy inventory, full tier coverage, staffed cigar service where appropriate. This is where your repeat cigar guests come. Requires the most inventory discipline.
3. Pool-deck and afternoon service
Lighter-wrapper focus (Connecticut Shade, Ecuadorian Sumatra) that works in outdoor humidity and afternoon sessions. Smaller inventory footprint, quick-service-oriented vitolas.
4. Event and catering cigar service
Weddings, corporate retreats, whisky tastings. Event-specific supplemental inventory with event-specific banding and presentation. MDC can provide a trained cigar sommelier for Elite Access resort clients on request.
What an MDC resort cigar account includes
Multi-venue rotation
25–40 SKUs picked to support multiple service points under one roof. Not one catalog - a multi-venue program.
Event-ready supply
Wedding and corporate-event supplemental inventory, branded bands, service carts, and optional on-site sommelier for Elite Access accounts.
Humidor calibration
Guidance on humidor sizing, outdoor-humidity management, high-altitude calibration (critical for mountain resorts), beetle prevention.
On-site staff training
Lobby bar, terrace, pool-deck, and event staff - each trained on their specific cigar-service model. Included with every resort account.
No-risk exchange
Shoulder-season returns are critical for resort properties. See the exchange.
Seasonal inventory planning
Ramp into peak season, unwind after. MDC's delivery cadence calibrated to your seasonal occupancy pattern.
Resort cigar inventory sizing
- Boutique resort (under 100 keys): 1,000–2,000 cigars across 20–30 SKUs. Single signature service point plus lobby bar.
- Standard destination resort: 2,000–4,000 cigars across 30–45 SKUs. Full multi-venue service including terrace + pool + event supplemental.
- Flagship luxury resort (Broadmoor/Four Seasons tier): 4,000–8,000+ cigars across 40–60 SKUs. Standing weekly rep relationship, rotation review, event calendar integration.
The resort cigar margin math
Resort properties see 3.0–4.5× wholesale-to-retail markup - the experience premium is substantial. A $14 wholesale cigar serves at $45–$60 at a resort terrace. The real margin story is the attach rate: resort guests ordering cigars typically order 2–3 drinks alongside, and the cigar sale carries a $70–$120 total bar ticket.

15 minutes. We'll tell you which of your service venues is leaving the biggest bar ticket on the table.
Book a 15-minute program call. We'll look at your property, your service venues (lobby, terrace, pool, dining, events), your seasonality, and your current humidor footprint. You'll walk away with a clear read on what a real multi-venue resort cigar program should look like - whether MDC ends up being your distributor or not.
A destination resort running a single lobby humidor instead of a multi-venue program typically leaves $40K-$150K/year on the table. Event and wedding supplementals compound the gap in peak season.
P.S. Mountain resorts have a specific humidor calibration challenge. If you're at altitude, the 15 minutes is worth it for the humidification guidance alone - most distributors get it wrong.
