A hospitality guest who buys a cigar is buying an experience. They're already on property, already drinking, already spending above their everyday baseline. A $25 cigar on the terrace is the smallest ticket they'll write all night - and it's the one that turns the evening into a memory they pay full price for every time they come back.

And yet, most hospitality venues run their cigar program like a gas station does: a glass display filled with generic inventory nobody on staff can talk about. That's not a program. That's a prop.

MDC is a national wholesale cigars distributor built specifically for hospitality - the kind that turns cigars into one of the most profitable revenue lines in the building.

“A cigar program inside a golf clubhouse looks nothing like one inside a casino high-roller suite - and nothing like the one in the lobby bar of a Four Seasons. We design to your venue, not a template.”
- Peter Roth, Founder, MDC

The hospitality cigar opportunity

Three things are true at every luxury hospitality venue we've worked with:

Why generic distributors fail hospitality venues

The standard wholesale cigar distributor treats a Four Seasons and a truck stop the same way. They push whatever's easy to move off their trucks, quote a "wholesale discount" that isn't really wholesale, leave the venue with inventory it can't sell, and disappear until renewal.

That model doesn't survive contact with hospitality. Specifically:

  • Your customers aren't their customers. A Broadmoor guest expects Liga Privada, Padrón. A generic catalog doesn't include them, or allocates them reluctantly.
  • Your staff isn't trained. The sommelier knows wine. Nobody on the floor knows cigars. Without staff competence, the cigar humidor becomes a display case that nobody sells from.
  • Your inventory sits. Dead cigars in a humidor are the #1 reason hospitality GMs give up on cigar programs - "we tried it, they didn't sell." What actually happened: the mix was wrong, the staff couldn't recommend, and nobody came back to fix it.
  • Your hours aren't their hours. Casino floors close at 4 AM and your main bar calls their distributor at 11 AM on a Thursday to learn a box is backordered. Six weeks later the guest asks for it and the answer is still no.

How MDC builds a hospitality program

Six steps. Every hospitality account - from a single cigar bar to a multi-property Caesars relationship - runs the same way.

01

We walk the venue.

For national hospitality clients we come on-site. Floor plan, bar flow, humidor placement, existing menu, guest mix. A casino high-roller suite looks nothing like a Four Seasons lobby bar - we design to your venue, not a template.

02

We spec the humidor.

The right humidor, sized for your turn rate and built for your environment. Display unit, back-of-house bulk, walk-in, terrace-integrated cabinet - whatever the venue calls for. We spec the build so climate and capacity are never the weak link.

03

We build inventory for your guest profile.

A casino high-roller floor stocks differently from a resort pool deck. A steakhouse cigar cart is different from a golf club half-way house. Starter mix sized for your expected turn rate, and flexed based on what sells in the first 90 days.

04

We train your staff.

Structured curriculum included with every account: flavor-profile recommendation, cut and light, whiskey/cognac pairings, storage, upsell. By the end of training, your bartenders, servers, and concierge can talk cigars at the level your guests expect.

05

We design the menu.

Strategic cigar menus - the paper artifact the guest actually reads - proven to lift cigar sales up to 70% in hospitality venues. Layout, pairings, tier framing, and the narrative that turns browsing into buying.

06

We stay on the account.

Every client works with a real person, not a portal. Phone calls get answered same day. On-site reviews happen quarterly for national accounts. If something isn't selling, we exchange it under our no-risk exchange - which for hospitality is the single most important policy we offer.

Cigar Concierge · Hospitality

We don't ship cigars. We concierge them.

A distributor moves product. A concierge knows your floor, your clientele, your calendar, the release your Diamond-tier guest expects to find in the humidor when he checks in in October. That's the difference between what catalog houses sell you and what MDC does for the Four Seasons, the Broadmoor, and Caesars every day.

· Four new accounts per month, by design ·

The Hospitality Margin Leak

If your hospitality cigar program looks like any of these, you're losing a six-figure revenue line.

01

Your cigar humidor is a display case nobody sells from.

The sommelier knows wine. Nobody on the floor can talk origin, wrapper, pairing. Without staff competence, cigars become an amenity guests look at - not an experience they buy.

02

Your inventory is a generic catalog, not a program.

A Broadmoor guest expects Padrón 1964, Liga Privada, Ashton ESG. A truck-stop distributor's catalog gives you Montecristo in 3 sizes and calls it a day. Your guest walks.

03

Your last distributor quoted "wholesale" that wasn't.

True distributor pricing doesn't get shopped against catalog retail. If the math on your invoices feels off by 15-25%, you're probably paying a middleman premium disguised as a wholesale discount.

04

When a SKU doesn't move, you eat it.

No restocking. No exchange. No option but to mark it down and hope. Meanwhile every dead box on your shelf is capital you can't redeploy. For hospitality venues this is the single most costly program mistake.

05

Your cigar revenue is an afterthought in the monthly P&L.

If you can't name your cigar category revenue in the last 90 days, that's the symptom. Hospitality venues running real programs see cigars as a top-5 margin line - not a rounding error.

The fix is almost never "try harder." It's replacing a generic catalog relationship with a hospitality-specific program.

Vertical breakdowns

Every hospitality vertical looks different. The program we build for a casino doesn't work for a steakhouse, and the pro-shop mix doesn't match the private club.

Casinos

The highest-margin cigar environment in hospitality. High-roller floors expect allocation-only brands - Liga Privada, My Father Le Bijou - and reward you for carrying them. We handle the sourcing. Staff training focuses on recognizing the high-value guest fast and pairing cigars to the night's bottle service.

Luxury hotels & resorts

The cigar program is part of the brand promise - guests expect it the same way they expect a specific thread count on the sheets. We build programs that match the hotel's tier: lobby bar, cigar terrace, club-level lounge, and pool deck all merchandise differently.

Restaurants & steakhouses

Cigars extend the evening - and the check. We build programs around after-dinner ritual: cognac and cigar pairings, aged spirits menu tie-ins, cigar carts that become the end-of-night talking point. Most steakhouses under-index on cigars because they don't have the right mix or the training. We fix both.

Program details

Golf clubs & pro shops

The weekend member, the Saturday foursome, the tournament - each has a different cigar buying pattern. We build programs for the halfway house, the clubhouse humidor, and the pro shop counter. Rarely is the mix the same in all three.

Program details

Private clubs & venues

Members expect personalization. We help clubs build a members-only cigar program - monogrammed humidors, reserved allocations, annual cigar dinners, allocation of rare releases. The highest-retention version of a cigar program you can run.

Program details

Cigar bars & lounges

For venues where cigars are the draw, not the add-on: rotation depth matters more than retail. We build the 80/20 core mix plus a rotating "new this month" shelf that keeps regulars coming back, and we train the bar team to actually sell from it.

Frequently asked by hospitality buyers

Detailed answers to 20 common questions are on our FAQ page. The three we hear most from hospitality specifically:

  • "Can we start small and scale?" Yes - we'd rather start with a right-sized program that sells through than oversize your humidor on day one. The no-risk exchange makes scaling up safe.
  • "Can you supply rare brands for a VIP lounge?" Yes. Elite Status members get access to allocated brands not available to the public. See memberships.
  • "What about on-site training cadence?" Initial training on launch, refresher every time you onboard new FOH staff, advanced training for the lead bartender or cigar steward if you designate one.

The Hospitality Guarantee

Your hospitality floor will never carry dead cigar inventory.

Every hospitality account - single-location cigar bar to Caesars property - is backed by our no-risk exchange. If a curated SKU doesn't sell through in 90 days, we swap it out and rotate you into something that fits your floor. No restocking fee. No argument. No 'final sale.' For hospitality programs especially, this is the single most important policy we offer - because it's the only way to run a cigar program without the GM eventually deciding "we tried it, it didn't work."

Book a 15-minute program call. A senior MDC rep walks through your property type, your guest profile, and your current cigar program (if any). You'll walk away with a real read on what cigars could be doing for your business - whether you become an MDC account or not.

Cost of Waiting

Most hospitality venues under-monetize cigars by $40-120K/year. Every month you wait is another month of that revenue walking past the humidor.
