Olmec Claro
The lighter shade of San Andrés wrapper. Rich but balanced, with the cocoa-and-earth character the leaf is famous for.
Olmec is Foundation Cigar Co.'s homage to the ancient Olmec civilization and to Mexican San Andrés tobacco, wrapping Nicaraguan filler in prized San Andrés leaf. MDC distributes Olmec to venues that want a modern, critically praised maduro-style boutique in the case.
San Andrés wrapper is having its moment - the dark Mexican leaf behind many of the highest-rated cigars of the past decade - and Olmec is one of the best pure showcases of it. Nick Melillo of Foundation built the blend around that wrapper in both a lighter Claro and a darker Maduro shade, and critics received it warmly from the start.
MDC carries 10 active Olmec SKUs. We position it as the modern boutique maduro slot: striking Aztec-inspired packaging that stands out in a display case, backed by a blend that earns the reorder.
“Olmec is in our standing rotation because the accounts we serve - from casinos to cigar bars - sell through it consistently. That's the only reason a brand stays on our line card.”
Not every SKU in the Olmec catalog is in our standing rotation - we curate to what actually moves at retail. These are the core lines we keep in depth.

The darker expression - deeper, sweeter, and fuller. A natural pick for after-dinner service.
Olmec fits steakhouses, cigar lounges, and casino bars where dark, rich profiles rule the evening. The medium-to-full body and San Andrés sweetness make it a strong after-dinner recommendation, and the distinctive packaging pulls attention in any display humidor. Specialty retailers and upscale liquor stores do well with it as the contemporary boutique next to the legacy maduro names.
MDC's active Olmec SKUs run roughly $149-$189 per box wholesale, and venues typically retail at 1.8x-2.5x wholesale. That tight range sits comfortably in the boutique mid-premium tier - an easy margin story across the whole line.
The MDC approach to any brand is the same: start with a curated core rotation sized to your venue, prove sell-through, then layer in deeper SKU coverage as the account matures. For a typical hospitality account, a Olmec program begins with 2–3 vitolas across 40–60 cigars of opening depth, paired with the other brands that complement your overall humidor structure.
Because Olmec is one of the core workhorse brands in the category, it's almost always part of the MDC opening-proposal for any new account - the exact SKUs and depth vary by whether you're running a bar-led hospitality program, a dedicated cigar lounge, or a pro-shop display. Your rep builds the proposal fast once you apply, with real numbers keyed to your venue.
Other brands frequently paired with Olmec in MDC programs: The Wise Man , Aganorsa Leaf , Casa Turrent , Crowned Heads . For the complete list of brands MDC distributes, see the wholesale cigar brands index. For the programs each brand fits - hospitality, retail, cigar bar - see Cigars for Hospitality and Cigars for Retail.
Apply to open an MDC account. We'll look at your venue profile, your existing rotation (if any), and tell you exactly what a Olmec program should look like on your floor - opening SKUs, depth, price points, and how it pairs with the rest of your humidor.
Every month without Olmec on your shelf is margin your competitors are collecting. Your rep can have it in your first shipment within a week of approval.
P.S. Olmec has been in MDC's standing rotation for 14+ years. If MDC can help your business, we can get you into a first shipment within a week of qualifying.
